Restaurant growth continues in Rogers

ROGERS - As tourism, retail and hospitality continue to take root here, other areas of development are growing as well.

New residents, people in town for conventions, and shoppers at the city's retail regions are adding to the interest in a growing menu of eating-out options in the area.

Here's a look at what's coming. Fast food options Rogers city planners received plans Friday for a Sonic Drive-In near the intersection of First Street and New Hope Road. The restaurant will be located near three of the city's schools.

Shoppers at the Pinnacle Hills Promenade will have another eating option when a Taco Bell opens at the intersection of 45 th Street and Rife Medical Lane. Engineers from Branson, Mo.-based G. Oney & Associates submitted plans for the restaurant to the state Jan. 12.

The city will see its second Chick-fil-A restaurant open in the Tuscany Square shopping center off of Pleasant Grove Road on April 16. Each time a new store opens, the first 100 customers get a year of combo meals, franchise owner Scott Clark said. People usually line up the night before to start waiting in line.

This is the second Chickfil-A franchise for Clark, who opened the store on Walnut Street in December 2003. Pinnacle Hills growth Mimi's Cafe, part of the California-based "comfort classics"food chain, will open in the Pinnacle Hills Promenade in late February, said Jeanne Turner, director of marketing for the chain.

"It's like the food that your mom used to make for you," Turner said.

Some of the restaurant's most popular menu items include chicken pot pie and jambalaya.

Mimi's Cafe has 108 restaurants in 19 states.

Sullivan's Steakhouse is also planned for the Promenade. Representatives from Wichita, Kan.-based Lone Star Steakhouse & Saloon Inc. submitted plans to the state in November, but ground has not yet been broken on the project. Representatives from the Promenade did not have an expected timeline of project completion.

Across Interstate 540, the Shoppes on Market Street are taking on restaurant tenants as well. Baker Bros. American Deli, which serves sandwiches on fresh-baked breads, has claimed a suite in the buildings.

Mary Bain, construction administrator for PB 2, said the eatery's planners hope to have it open "as soon as possible. "Still to come Two popular Washington County chain restaurants are planned for the area near the Home Depot on 45 th Street. Plans for Red Lobster and Olive Garden have already been approved by the Rogers Planning Commission, and both restaurants have received conditional-use permits to operate as private clubs.

Elsewhere in the city, Granite City Food and Brewery is expected to offer its casual dining options to Rogers residents soon. The restaurant's Web site lists Rogers on its list of future locations.
