NWACC enrollment up for spring 2007

BENTONVILLE - Northwest Arkansas Community College has seen a 7. 5 percent increase in its head count this spring semester over spring 2006, the college announced Wednesday.

Enrollment at NWACC this spring stood at 5, 823 on Tuesday. That's the 11 th class day, when the college records its official headcount. The enrollment represents an increase of 404 students from spring semester a year ago.

The 7. 5 percent increase is the largest since NWACC recorded a 12. 4 percent increase from spring 2004 to spring 2005. Enrollment last spring was up 3. 1 percent.

Those 5, 823 students are enrolled in a total of 46, 970 college credit hours, a 5. 1 percent increase from a year ago.

NWACC offered 856 sections of classes this semester, and 139 sections closed. The college also had 587 sections that had five or fewer seats remaining open as of Tuesday.

Also, 24 distance-learning sections closed out of 79 that were offered.

Included in the spring enrollment numbers are students taking college classes at NWACC's Regional Technology Center in Fayetteville in the evenings, and highschool students in concurrent classes.

There are 494 students taking college-level courses at the RTC this spring. That's an unduplicated number.

A total of 560 individuals are taking classes at NWACC's Washington County Center in Springdale, where 43 sections are being taught by 27 faculty members.

A total of 32 individual students were enrolled in NWACC classes held at the Highlands Crossing in Bella Vista.

NWACC's Step Ahead (concurrent enrollment ) program has 520 high school students enrolled at their high school campuses this spring. This is the first academic year in which both fall and spring semesters exceeded 500 Step Ahead students.

Step Ahead courses are offered at 13 area high schools this semester.

NWACC will report an official credit enrollment to the Arkansas Department of Higher Education on Feb. 14.

The headcount of students enrolled in high school technical classes at the RTC this spring is 337, up from 330 in the fall. In addition, the RTC has 38 adults enrolled in the technical classes for a total technical enrollment of 375.
