Cremated remains found in Gentry trash bin
Posted on Saturday, August 5, 2006
A box of cremated human remains was found in the trash at an E-Z Mart in Gentry on July 26. The box was turned over to the Gentry Police Department the next morning.
A night clerk noticed that a trash sack was heavy and checked the contents to discover a shoebox-size container of remains, complete with the name, date of death and the name of the crematory.
Officer Jeremy Ferguson of the Gentry Police Department located family members of the deceased by contacting the crematory in Santa Fe, Texas.
Though the name of the deceased was withheld, the date of death was in 1989. The cremated remains were last known to be in the custody of the widow of the deceased.
The Gentry Police Department turned over the remains to other family members on Monday. No criminal charges are pending.
