Posted on Thursday, April 13, 2006
Northwest Arkansas Community College has awarded Green Belts to 27 graduates of the third Six Sigma class offered through Corporate and Continuing Education.
Graduates represented eight local companies: AMO Electric, Bekaert, FM Corporation, Franklin Electric, Fuji Film, Kennametal-Bentonville, Kennametal-Rogers, Rockline Industries and Preformed Line Products.
Program instructors Tim Plutino and Chad Smith presented certificates at an April 4 ceremony.
Students gave presentations of real-world Six Sigma projects, a requirement for program completion.
Six Sigma is a disciplined, data-driven approach and methodology for eliminating defects in business processes. The Green Belt is the first level of certification in the Six Sigma processes.
Black Belt certification will be offered this fall.
The program will be the first of its kind offered in northwest Arkansas. Black Belt is the next level of proficiency in the Six Sigma Quality program. Classes for Black Belt certification begin July 31.
The next Six Sigma Green Belt course began April 11 and is taught from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesdays.
