BENTONVILLE - The Bentonville/Bella Vista Chamber of Commerce is working to bring members of the supplier community together with a series of quarterly educational seminars for vendors in the area. "These seminars will cover topics that are relevant to this unique environment," said Tammy Thurow, the Chamber’s vice president of marketing and membership services. "We saw that suppliers were asking us about different things we could provide (to educate them)," Thurow said.
The seminars are free to all suppliers in the area, and membership in the Chamber is not required to attend.
The series kicked off Wednesday at Bentonville Plaza, with a seminar on Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) led by Marc Osofsky, vice president of marketing and product management for OatSystems.
RFID is a tagging system that could eventually change the way the retail world stocks its shelves. It is an automatic identification method, relying on storing and remotely retrieving data using devices called RFID tags. An RFID tag can be attached to or incorporated into a product. These tags contain silicon chips and antennas to enable them to receive and respond to radio-frequency queries from an RFID transceiver.
But this seminar is only the beginning in a series of educational seminars the chamber will present.
From 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. June 7, representatives from Spectra Marketing will be on site to present a program on opportunity gapping, or market opportunities that aren’t addressed. "It’s something that is very important to the suppliers," Thurow said.
Refreshments are included in these seminars. For more information on these seminars or to RSVP, contact Thurow at 273-2841 or email tthurow@bbvchamber. com.
