BENTONVILLE — In the city’s eyes, the first step has been taken for the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art. The Planning Office received a handful of plans by its noon deadline Monday.
Museum officials submitted a property-line adjustment for the unusually shaped museum site, which sits between Northeast J and A streets south of Tiger Boulevard. "This is the first step to consolidate the lots into one property for the museum and park,"Executive Director Bob Workman said. The total site holds 101.93 acres, combining about 12 parcels that sit northeast of downtown Bentonville. "It’s a first step. It’s exciting to have this all consolidated into the museum’s boundaries,"Workman said.
The $50 million Crystal Bridges complex is envisioned as a premier national art institution dedicated to American art and artists, learning and community gatherings. The entire complex will encompass approximately 100,000 square feet of gallery, library, and meeting space, a 250-seat indoor auditorium, sculpture gardens and walking trails. The permanent collection of masterworks hails from American artists, along with galleries dedicated to Native American and regional art and artists. The heart of the permanent collection will include works donated by founder Alice Walton and the Walton Family Foundation.
In other news, Fountain Plaza Investments of Little Rock submitted large-scale development plans for a 22,750-squarefoot building with 127 parking spaces fronting Southeast Walton Boulevard. The property is zoned general commercial (C-2) and should be used for retail or commercial use.
The Planning Office also received the following • Mike Pennington of Pennington Development submitted a final plat for Oaklawn Hills subdivision, a 40-acre subdivision off Northwest A Street. The 64-lot subdivision sits on hilly topography and has five cul-de-sacs. Most of the lots are large, ranging from 0.33 acres to 1.07 acres.
• Kevin Mathews submitted a final plat for Mathews Addition, on 0.48 acres at the northeast corner of Southeast J and 34 th streets. Kraig Mathews and Kevin Mathews — who are brothers — intend to build two new buildings on two lots at Southeast J and 34 th streets, then relocate their businesses, Top Dollar Pawn and The Tire Shop, into the new buildings.
• LandQuest Communities of Arkansas submitted a lot split to divide a 24.84-acre lot into two lots of 22.56 acres and 2.25 acres at the corner of Southwest Bright Road and Arkansas Highway 112 South.
• Woods Chapel Church submitted a property-line adjustment for 10 acres holding a new 5,940-square-foot church at 8084 Bright Road. The church was previously on J Street under the name of Northwest Arkansas Fellowship Church, but it is changing its name to Woods Chapel.
