BENTONVILLE — Northwest Arkansas Community College has been named a training provider for a recently approved initiative funded by the Arkansas Incumbent Worker Training Program, said Floretta Bush, dean of Corporate and Continuing Education at NWACC.

Kennametal Inc. of Rogers sponsored the initiative, focusing on training existing employees in the Six Sigma quality process and national electrical code requirements. Kennametal received $20,475 and $5,819 respectively from IWTP to support the program.

Training will be provided through NWACC’s Corporate and Continuing Education Division. "At Kennametal Inc., we have utilized a number of the training programs offered at NWACC and found them to be applicable and informative," said James R. Cox, human resources manager at Kennametal. "The staff is well informed and has been very responsive to our needs."

IWTP provides funding to businesses for innovative training projects that promote skill development for their existing employees.

Under the Workforce Investment Act, IWTP is designed to increase employee advancement opportunities, improve productivity and growth for businesses, and strengthen local and state economies.

Project sponsors must demonstrate that the proposed training will maintain their employees’ skill levels and allow them to remain competitive in the workplace. Kennametal anticipates an immediate and positive impact on efficiency, safety and employee retention.

Jim Corbin, business liaison with NWACC’s Corporate and Continuing Education Division, noted that the faculty and staff are excited to be part of this program. "When we have an opportunity to help both workers and local businesses reach their personal and corporate goals, everyone wins," he said. "It is a privilege to work together with these outstanding companies to help their workers reach their highest potential."

In addition to Kennametal, eight other local businesses have partnered to benefit from the Six Sigma Green Belt Certification training: Kennametal Bentonville; Franklin Electric and Allen Canning Co., both of Siloam Springs; AMO Electric, Bekaert, FM Corp. and Preformed Line Products, all of Rogers; and Rockline Industries of Springdale.
