BENTON COUNTY — The Steering Committee of Leadership Benton County recently announced the members of the fifth class for 2006-2007. A reception for class members was held on Aug. 3 at Northwest Arkansas Community College followed by an overnight retreat held at the Wingate Hotel in Bentonville.
The community leadership development program provides leadership training specific to the regional issues facing the county. Leadership Benton County is a joint project of the Rogers-Lowell Area Chamber of Commerce, the Bentonville / Bella Vista Chamber of Commerce, and the Siloam Springs Chamber of Commerce.
The program serves as the chamber’s training ground for future leaders in Benton County, offering awareness and understanding of all facets of the community. Goals of the 11-session program include identification and motivation of individuals with leadership potential; acquainting participants with community needs, challenges and opportunities; offering a forum for dealing with community issues; and challenging future leaders to become involved with local issues and the process of decision-making. The program is sponsored by The Morning News of Northwest Arkansas.
Participants will meet monthly from August to May 2007. Sessions will focus on local and county government, education, economy, human services and nonprofit agencies, state government, regionalism, and leadership skills and theories.
Simmons First Bank provided the fifth Marvin Griffin Memorial Scholarship to one of the participants in remembrance of Griffin’s outstanding leadership in the community.
