Wie comes under fire for decision Here’s what Joe Logan of The Philadelphia Inquirer thinks about Michelle Wie’s decision to play in the PGA Tour’s Legend’s Reno-Tahoe Open “Dumb. Dumb. Dumb,” he wrote.

“Wie, having apparently not learned her lesson, having apparently not been sufficiently humbled and humiliated by her past efforts, has decided to once again tee it up against the men, in next week’s Legends Reno-Tahoe Open.

“ True, the Reno-Tahoe Open is one of the more forgettable events on the PGA Tour calendar, a weakfield event whose fate it is to go on at the same time as the higherprofile World Golf Championship-Bridgestone Invitational in Akron, Ohio. That is where the stars of the game will be — minus Tiger, of course — next week, not with Wie in Reno-Tahoe.

“ ‘It’s not every day that a woman is given the opportunity to play on the greatest tour in the world,’ Wie said in a statement. ‘This is another step in the process of making me a better player.’ “ Phooey. No, it’s not.

“ What this is is a blatant marketing ploy by the Legends Reno-Tahoe Open to steal just a little of the limelight from the WGCBridgestone.” Aching in Miami The Orlando Sentinel’s Andrea Adelson is bummed. “Ricky Williams ?” she wrote. “Yes indeed, the team-quitting, marijuana-smoking running back is now the face of my beloved franchise, the Miami Dolphins. “(Pause for a good cry ). “ Seriously, who else is there ? Now that Jason Taylor has gotten his way out of Miami and is off to the Redskins, the Dolphins are left with no marquee players for the first time since their expansion days. Even those guys were better than the garbage the team has collected for the 2008 season.” Twice the earnings Alex Rodriguez has joined the same team that represented Britney Spears. Rodriguez, the New York Yankee slugger, has signed with the William Morris Agency after six months negotiating a deal designed to “burnish his appeal as an athlete with appeal beyond his sport,” according to reports. Other current and former agency clients include John Travolta, Eddie Murphy, Whoopi Goldberg, Russell Crowe, Mel Gibson, Willie Nelson, the Rolling Stones and Michelle Wie. The annual revenue of WMA is estimated at about $ 275 million — or the same as Rodriguez will earn over the term of his Yankees contract.

Ugly for Uggla The 79 th All-Star Game was a marathon, at 4 hours, 50 minutes the longest ever, and was probably an inning away from running out of pitchers, which would have made the whole thing laughable.

But that’s not what Dan Uggla of the Florida Marlins will remember, although he’s probably hoping everyone else forgets.

According to baseball statistics guru Bill Arnold and the Elias Sports Bureau, Uggla became the first major leaguer since 1940 to make three errors, strike out three times and hit into a double play in a regular-season game, All-Star game or postseason game.
