GREENWOOD — It’s been a while since Shiloh Christian felt the sting of defeat.
Not since the 2005 playoffs had the Saints lost a game, but Greenwood ended their 16-game winning streak with a 52-35 victory Friday at Smith-Robinson Stadium.
Shiloh Christian (2-1 ) scored in the final minute to win last year’s matchup 49-48, after the Bulldogs prevailed 45-42 two years ago.
“We’re a part of that 16-game streak,” Greenwood Coach Rick Jones said. “I’ve got a lot of respect for Shiloh. That’s the way it is with this series, there’s an ebb and a flow. I think they’re going to be a tremendous football team this year.”
Greenwood receiver Zach Turpin caught 5 passes from Tyler Wilson for 146 yards and 3 touchdowns. Wilson finished 17 of 33 for 308 yards and 5 touchdowns, with 2 interceptions.
Saints quarterback Blake Roberts completed 29 of 54 attempts for 373 yards and 3 touchdowns, but Roberts was unable to find his rhythm as quickly as Wilson.
“We had trouble getting to [Wilson ],” Shiloh Christian Coach Josh Floyd said. “He had all day to throw. He’s too good to let him have that much time.”
