Donald Coleman Bland : Retail filled his sails

BY ROBIN MERO SPECIAL TO THE DEMOCRAT-GAZETTE

SELF PORTRAIT Date and place of birth: Nov. 13, 1940, St. Louis What's always with me: my cell phone Favorite place at my home: theater room with 12 big seats Favorite kind of music: straight ahead jazz Bad habit: I've probably liked more than one glass of wine. And recently I've taken up smoking cigars with a glass of cognac. Most important achievement: I've managed to get through life without physically hurting anyone, being in trouble with the law, falling prey to drugs or having a lifethreatening illness or experience. A perfect day is spent on the golf course. If I could change one thing about myself, I would have more patience. My role model was my mother. My most recent achievement was the Elder Watson Diggs Award from Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc. One word to sum me up: determined ROGERS — When Dean Dan Worrell of the Sam M. Walton College of Business at the University of Arkansas met Don Bland, he realized Bland was what the college needed but didn't yet know it. - Sunday, June 28, 2009

DEAR ABBY : Teenage mother wants more from father

DEAR ABBY: I'm 15 and have a 6-month-old daughter who is my everything. Her father is 16, and he does drugs and drinks. He says he loves me and the baby, but given the choice, he'd rather be stoned or drunk at his friends' houses than see his daughter. - Sunday, June 28, 2009

MALE CALL : White sports coat fits better socially than full white suit

LOIS FENTON

Q. I have a dark complexion and am told I look good in white and off-whites. I'd like to purchase my first "white" suit. I've seen men in suits that look white, but on further examination, they are more like cream color. I'm not sure what is in style. I'm also wondering about fabric, since every spot and wrinkle would be apt to show. Can you give me some pointers? - Sunday, June 28, 2009
